Laboratory Diagnostic Test For Dengue

by Health Please

It’s just another day for you at work; you handover one of the most important dossiers to your Team, signed and sealed, for execution and come back to your cabin, where a glass of cool water is kept next to one of those flamboyant paper-weights you gifted yourself recently. You sit on your comfortable high-back chair with a soft, heavily cushioned backrest, pushing it back, to relax after an eventful, busy first half. You pick up the glass of water, eyes transfixed on the gorgeous paperweight. Just as you start sipping water, you feel a light, but significant pain behind your eyes. Within moments, you also realize you have a light headache. The pain still isn’t excruciating, but it’s significant and unlike any pain you have felt so far.

Laboratory Diagnostic Test For Dengue & other diseases- Health Please

By evening, the headache has gotten severe and the pain behind your eyes is a lot more pronounced. You can also sense you have high fever and the intermittent nausea you seemed to have developed doesn’t exactly let you enjoy your evening Tea. You drive back home, feeling fatigued. By late evening, your muscles and joints are already in writhing pain. Paracetamol made you feel better, but only for a couple of hours. You call up your physician. He asks you to eat an antibiotic, preferably Taxim-O, twice a day for three days and asks you to update. “If you don’t feel better, we will investigate” he assures. “Make sure you keep yourself hydrated. Drink lot of water and avoiding eating anything that’s oily and too spicy”, he reiterates. Three days later, it has only gotten worse. You have developed rashes as well, on your skin. The pain in muscles and joints has gotten worse, and the pain behind your eyes keeps visiting every couple of hours, growing in its intensity with each visit. You call up your physician. He asks you to get a few Tests done, one of which is for Dengue. A few hours later, your physician calls you up, “You have dengue. Please get admitted”.

Know Your Blood Group with Blood Type Chart

.

The most important purpose to know your blood group is for the times of medical adversity. At the time of an emergency like lack of basic health components in the body like hemoglobin or at an event of an accident where in an external supply of the blood (transfusion) is essential, the knowledge of your blood group becomes vital. Hence it is essential and extremely crucial to get a blood test done.

What are Blood Group or Blood Types

A blood type (also called a blood group) is a classification of blood based on the presence and absence of antibodies and based on the presence or absence of inherited antigenic substances on the surface of red blood cells (RBCs). These antigens may be proteins, carbohydrates, glycoproteins, or glycolipids, depending on the blood group system. Some of these antigens are also present on the surface of other types of cells of various tissues. Several of these red blood cell surface antigens can stem from one allele (or an alternative version of a gene) and collectively form a blood group system.

ABO types -

ABO types were the first of the discoveries.

  • Group A – Antigen A with antibody B
  • Group B – Antigen B with antibody A
  • Group AB – Antigen AB has no antibodies
  • Group O – Antigen nil (group O) with antibody A and B.

Rh types -

There are 5 main Rhesus (Rh) antigens on red cells – C, c, D, E, e.

The most important of these is the Rh D group. The positive (+) or the negative (-) after the letter A, B, AB or O is given by the D antigen on the red cell. In general practice, Rh negative blood is given to Rh-negative patients, and Rh-positive blood or Rh-negative blood may be given to Rh positive patients.

The universal red cell donor has Type O negative blood type.

The universal plasma donor has Type AB blood type.

Blood Matches

It is essential to know the blood matches as that decides the availability of blood and the readiness of transfusion from one body to the other.

  • Group O can donate red cells to anybody. It’s the universal donor O
  • Group A can donate red cells to A’s and B’s
  • Group B can donate red blood cells to B’s and AB’s
  • Group AB can give blood only to other AB’s but can receive from all others
Donor Recipient
O O A B AB
A X A B X
B X X B AB
AB X X X AB

Blood Type Determination

It is inherited. Like eye color, blood type is passed genetically from your parents. Whether your blood group is type A, B, AB or O is based on the blood types of your mother and father.

This chart shows the possible blood types you may inherit.

Parent1 AB AB AB AB B A A O O O
Parent2 AB B A O B B A B A O
Possible Blood Type of Child
O X X X X X X
A X X X X XXX
B X X X X X X X
AB X X X X
