Importance of Preventive Health Check-up

When was the last time you went for a check-up without a doctor’s discretion? Probably never.

That’s the sorry state of our busy, stress-filled lives today. We are left with no self-care given the nature of our hectic lives. And only when a situation worsens do we take it to the doctors.

World No Tobacco Day

If you have been guilty of the above, the first thing you will remember your doctor asking you to get a proper diagnosis. That’s how we begin to take ourselves and our health more seriously. But this needn’t always be the scene if you are well prepared to tackle any impending health anomalies.

Why are health check-ups important?

Simply, because they are a preventive measure.

Preventive measure against what?

Against silent diseases like diabetes, blood pressure, cancer and the likes that may be hard to detect at the onset and may not necessarily show any physical symptoms. Most of these ailments are hereditary in nature and one cannot identify the existence or emergence of these just by the looks of it. No one can tell when they may begin to show up or not even at all. But a a general rule, these hereditary ailments eventually do show up.

When you start getting regular wellness check-ups, you start keeping your lifestyle in check. Your health is now in your hands and you know to not let that cholesterol level arise more, etc. And it’s not just about these ailments that run in the family. Think of osteoporosis screening or an early detection of breast cancer.

It all really comes down to a simple blood test.

Studies across the world have shown an escalation in lifestyle disorders for working people aged between 35-65 years. The overall international consensus and understanding is that men above 35 years and women above 40 years must subscribe to an annual preventive health check-up.

Apart from regular lifestyle corrections, a preventive health check-up plan will aid in you identifying the early symptoms of diseases and put in a proactive spot to fight against them.

What to remember when going of a preventive health check-up?

  • 10-15 hours of fasting may be required as several tests are conducted on an empty stomach.
  • Wear loose fitting clothes, stay comfortable
  • No jewellery or metallic objects allowed
  • Let your doctor know if you have a pacemaker in your body

When you opt for a check-up plan, you allow your body to communicate with you in a better way. The right kind of services and treatments can give you a proper insight into your disease and make you better informed to deal with it.
